A discussion on innovative methods for student self-reflection on skills and enhanced career paths in arts and culture

How can professional orientation better benefit from the new era of digitalization and its rich opportunities? How to strengthen the resilience and self-esteem of current and future young practitioners, whose career paths have become more diverse and eclectic?

Through a project labeled Digital Career Stories – Opening new career paths for arts and culture students, or DICO for short, a consortium of five European universities has developed a methodology to encourage reflection and self-reflection skills among higher education students, along with their digital and creative skills.

This Members Talk will be devoted to this 2-year-long pedagogical development project. Led by Mara Cerquetti, ENCATC member and associate management professor at the University of Macerata, Italy, it will give an opportunity to discuss its approach.

How to tailor unique vocational identities, chart more customized career paths, enhance the resilience and self-esteem of professionals in culture? How to encourage their sense of ownership of their work trajectories? Answers can be found in the book available here, proposing a toolkit resulting from DICO's work.

But our Talk will bring the debate even further exploring how to answer to the sector's critical need for a deepening of the professionals' personal conceptions and views regarding their role and perspectives, amid changing requirements and expectations within sectoral and subsectoral labour markets.
